To the north of Lisbon, Porto has medieval cobbled streets and the stately houses of wealthy wine merchants. As in many places in Portugal the seafood is excellent, with freshly-grilled sardines a popular street food.
With its long coastline, Portugal is a popular seaside holiday destination. From the busy beaches of the Algarve in the south to the golden Atlantic Ocean sands near Lisbon, there are plenty of great options for beach relaxation.
The summer months of July and August get very hot and busy in Portugal so Spring and Autumn are often the best seasons to visit.
