Villa Olivia is a gorgeous countryside tranquil retreat, built in a French-Provencal style surrounded by well-kept gardens and features a large outdoor swimming pool and terrace.

Sea views in the distance are glimpsed through the orchards and fields stretching down to the coastline and Trapezaki beach is a five minute drive, closer to home are a scattering of traditional tavernas and mini markets, some within a 25 minute walk.

With the added advantages of free WiFi, air-conditioning, pool towels, hairdryers, complementary toiletries and an I-pod dock guests really do receive luxury while staying here.

The house itself is simply and elegantly designed, a largely single storey structure with split levels adding interest and style. The traditional cream exterior sits beautifully and unobtrusively in its surroundings while a delightful balcony overlooking the fabulous L-shaped private pool and spacious sun terrace offers a chance to sit back and savour the views across to the sapphire-blue Ionian Sea.

To one side is a very appealing outside dining area, complete with built-in barbecue, sink and store cupboards so you can indulge in some great alfresco cooking and chill out over a cool drink as your lamb souvlaki or fresh local seafood sizzle away on the grill.

Inside, a large open plan space incorporates the lounge, dining room and kitchen, all kept attractively bright and airy with pristine white walls, whitewashed timber beams and creamy floor tiles. Huge sets of patio doors allow light to flood in as well as maintaining the wonderful sea view. Plush, comfy sofas and a traditional fireplace create a cosy ambience, while a flat screen TV and DVD player offer a chance to catch up on a few missed movies during your stay.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to make your visit as comfortable as possible, whether you’re a keen cook or looking to keep meals simple and hassle-free. The handsome dining area offers a great alternative to mealtimes alfresco.

Leading down from the living area are two exquisite bedrooms, both with French doors opening onto a canopied patio. Chic and romantic, each is individually styled, one with a queen size bed and en suite shower room and the other with a king size bed and separate shower room.

Close to the villa you’ll find a handful of mini-markets and tavernas, with the long, narrow sandy beach at Trapezaki only one kilometre away. Here the cool, clear waters are deliciously inviting and ideal for snorkelling. The busier resorts of Lassi and Skala are only a few minutes’ drive away while the island capital, Argostoli, is only 20 minutes away. The town is well worth a visit, not only for a larger assortment of bars and restaurants but also for its pretty harbour and famous local turtles.
