The ‘land of smiles’, Thailand has been welcoming visitors since the 1960s and it is no wonder holidaymakers find it hard to resist with its mix of culture, cuisine and some of the world’s most famous beach areas.
Thailand has a tropical monsoon climate and is hot and humid year around so time your visit to avoid the worst of the rains between May and November. However, if you are visiting the southern coastal areas of Thailand you can usually find a sunny beach at any time of the year because the monsoon hits the two coasts at different times.
For Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi in the west avoid the rains between April and October, while in the east (Koh Samui and Koh Phangan) the heaviest rains are September to December.
Visit Thailand for one of the famous festivals, such as the Song Kran water festival during the Thai New Year in April. Another spectacular event is the Yi Peng Lantern Festival in November.
Thailand is a country in central south-east Asia
